Feeling frustrated!

I don't think you need to worry about the cold feet Danjess, the weather has been cold.
Your readings sound pretty normal for someone who isn't taking drugs and is learning to control their levels.
You should test 2 hours after eating, (the one hour spike is bound to be highest), and ideally it should be below 7.8.
Your fasting BG first thing in the morning will give you a good idea of how good your overall control is. Again, below 7.8 is best.
Don't forget if you are checking how a specific meal affects you, test before as well as two hours after.
Don't feel too harassed, you have this condition for the rest of your life, you can take your time learning how to control it, and you will make mistakes along the way.
By the way, apparently the body is not affected by even very high spikes that last less than 15 minutes. Normal people get them!
