Feeling ill on saline pump

Started pumping saline on a temporary pump yesterday morning (had to use borrowed one as mine didn't arrive in time :( ) and ever since I have been so, so thirsty. I kept checking my BG levels and they are normal, also double checked on second meter. As far as I know the infusion set fired in ok (we have to look on Sunday when we do our first set change) so could the saline be causing this? I am now feeling slightly sick and just not right.

If your cannular wasn't in probably, the dressing would be damp as the saline would leak.. If there was a infection or reaction then the site would become red and sore...

As Saline is sterile water, it is unlikely to cause a reaction of any sorts..

Perhaps it's bad timing, and you coming down with the old fashioned lerkies???

Keep an eye on you BG's to ensure that don't go shooting up, if you are concerned then give your out of hour gp a bell..

P.S

I'm assuming that you are still taking all your insulin as normal

Hi

I never pumped with saline. I went straight to using insulin. Not sure what is wrong but if you feel that the pump might be causing you to feel ill, pull out the infusion set, turn the pump off and wait 2 days before you carry on with another set just to see if your symptoms clear up. If they do, then you need to query whether you were pumping saline or something else.

Thank you so much for your replies :)

I am still taking my insulin as normal and the set seems fine as no leaking and not sore.

I could be fighting something as my boss was off until Thursday last week with something really nasty and he spent Thursday coughing all over us all  I normally find my BG levels shoot up if I'm ill but maybe something is just lerking.

I have found that drinking massive amounts of water seems to be helping and I'm feeling a little better. Fingers crossed for my set change tomorrow and starting the insulin Wednesday :D
