Quite a few people appear to 'get cured' but very many control things well for decades. Although it seems like a blow to begin with, at least knowing gives you the chance of doing something about it. You have to feel sorry for those who have it but don't know that they have it. I have been able to return to a more or less normal diet with the exception of those little things that probably gave me diabetes in the first place, sweets, jam doughnuts, biscuits, chocolate bars and things like toast and marmelade.
On the plus side I can now walk up hills and ride a bike again.
