Feeling tired and sluggish today!

Hi all,

I've been on a reduced/low carb diet for the last 2 weeks and my bm's are coming down really well.

Today I'm feeling really tired and sluggish and if my brain wasn't working overtime like it always does I'd be sparko now! My levels are in single figures so far today so not feeling this way from a hyper.

Has anyone else found this? Is it just a adjustment period whilst my body gets used to the lower carbs?

Thank you and hope your all having a good Sunday

X

Most likely a period you will find until your body gets used to you lowering down in to single figures , although you should watch to make sure you're getting enough carbs to produce enough sugar for energy.

Thank you Fetchmeacoffee! Well I'm taking about 100g of carbs a day so hopefully that's not too low? Luckily I love my veg and salads and having plenty of protein. I am loving not having the blood sugar swings :-) x

Hi Emmie , I'd say 100 is enough , and being in single figures is such a nice feeling , when your meter displays it anyway.
I'd guess that running in doubles for so long , then bringing it down will have an affect , I found that running in the teens , then suddenly hitting between 5-8 made me feel a little hypo-ish.

Best of luck with it though , and hopefully in a few weeks ul feel fab :)

Thank you :-). I don't have hypo awareness anyway so the stress of that as made me swing a lot over the last year or so and trying to juggle so much. I have a hypo alert dog now so I'm learning to put my trust in him and do more insulin etc so fingers crossed like you say in a few weeks ill be feeling great. X

When I started on insulin I felt dreadful for the first couple of weeks as my body adjusted to having less sugar in it. I spoke to the dsn about it as I thought insulin was supposed to make me feel better. She said that my hyperthalmus was like my internal thermostat and was so used to bring high that it was telling my body it needed more sugar when it didn't. It takes a wee while to reprogram but you'll get there.
