Hi, if you have seen any of my posts in the fasting readings thread, I have had very high readings for quite some time now. I am being treated and things are improving, but I have had a real problem with my foot this week and I am wondering am I going mad or is this also related to my condition?

Basically it's like someone is pouring hot water over my right foot, it even spreads like the feeling of water it only lasts a few seconds but it keeps happening.

I went to see a podiatrist when I was first diagnosed as I had foot issues and am constantly told by various people as I have only been diagnosed for 2 years the chances of any issues are small.

Well, when I had my first eye check, i had small hemorrhages on my retinas so I must have had this condition un-diagnosed for some time now.

So is this feeling in my right foot the start of something, what do I do? If I speak to the diabetic nurse at the hospital, she said see your podiatrist, how do I do that do I need to make a GP appointment and get referred again?

Feeling far older than my years and feeling down, just feel like I am falling apart.

When I was discharged by the podiatrist here, I was told if I have problems at any time, I can self refer, so it's probably worth a call. The worst thing they can do is ask you to see your GP for re-referral?

Yep another GP appointment just to be referred, I really hate this disease I have lost so much money by having to take unpaid time of work for appointments and I am really fed up.

Within the NHS you can indeed request a self referral form .
Possibly try your nearest health centre?
Fill the form in and return form to them .

They should send you an appointment for an
assessment to be carried out .
At the assessment you will have the chance to explain
all your foot/feet concerns .
Appointments for podiatry self referrals can be up to 12-16weeks .

The thing that is getting me a little annoyed is I have been seen numerous times now over the last two years, and have only had my feet checked once. With everything else that is going wrong, then surely there should be some care for me feet too.

Anyway I will find out what's next in a few days at my GP appointment

I think @jack412 is quite close to the problem,( peripheral nerve or other nerve), that would be for the physical therapist to check out, might be best to see GP first.
Things like sitting at work all day may cause a pinched nerve, could be anything that triggers a pinched nerve.
Might be even shoe related, however you have already seen a podiatrist so good footwear would have been advised
Beat of luck at the Doctors:)

Hi sallybear, try the padded inserts in your shoes, these helped my foot pain, and as i lost weight and my blood sugar got to "normal" for type2, my foot pain has eased agreat deal, best regards ,driver777

HI guys, yes just good old fashioned neuropathy. He gave me amytriptaline and said be careful.

Clive gave some great advice .... I ended up with really sore feet (unrelated to T2) and spent a bucketload on a pair of brooks shoes. They made a WORLD of difference and no more pain.

I'd certainly investigate something that gives you support and comfort. Best of luck

Hi, from my experience , my feet were very sore ,nothing visible just the nerve pain, since going on the low carb diet, it has gone! Just the odd tingle but nothing like it was! (I have been using the padded inserts in my shoes and slippers for about a yr now and they helped a lot too) clive

Does anyone have any tips for coping with this, currently sitting at my desk in work, just been in a meeting for half an hour and I really am struggling to cope with this feeling of hot water being poured over my foot. It isn't just warm any more it feels like too hot to touch water and it makes em jump and it's hurting. I know I'm sounding like a snivelling child but this is awful.

Snap. I get that. It started years ago when I had bad sciatica and I was told it was due to the trapped nerve and that it would probably never fully go away. I have always wondered if it was also something to do with diabetes (T2), but whenever I've had my feet checked the nurse says they are fine and the foot problem isn't diabetic related (it feels like a cross between pins and needles and sunburn).

I have been low carbing since May and haven't really noticed much change, although these days it's not as bad as it was when I had full-blown sciatica.

What to do about it? Well, if the doc is right and it is neuropathy, shouldn't the meds work?

If the doc has got it wrong, and it is a trapped nerve, psysio excercises for back problems, especially ones to strengthen abdominal muscles, should help - and hopefully they wouldn't do you any harm if you did them and it wasn't a trapped nerve.

Hi, treat your feet with very great care get proper gel insoles and wear them in your shoes and slippers at home, i'm sure that in time ,things will improve, what diet regime are you on?

I'm on a LCHF diet but this hasn't been bringing down my readings by much, I also have Hemachromatosis, and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver DIsease, and I am on so many meds now that I forget what I am taking!!

Hoping when I move to insulin I can stop the tablets. Can't wait. Appointment tomorrow at hospital now.

I guess you are lucky, I'm still waiting for a 6 months follow up appointment for my feet from 4 years ago, my original appointment took 3 years to come through, mind my nurse keeps a eye on my feet and she's good albeit she's not a DSN.

We don't have DSN in our GP surgery, apparently because there is a massive waiting list for the training. I am glad I was referred to the hospital, but we have a specialist diabetic GP in our surgery, and he referred me for Exenetide and now I am under them apparently I can see them if I need. So yes I feel very lucky, but also I think it should be the norm, so I ma sorry you don't have that level of support. Hope you get it soon enough.
