Hi,

just moved from Berkshire to Felixstowe, Suffolk.

I need to register with a local doctor and was wondering if there were any diabetics in the area who could recommend a 'daibetic aware' practice in the town.

Somewhere with a friendly diabetic support team and also hopefully a good phlebotomist.

Cheers

Hi LGC,

Have a chat with the pharmacists at the local chemists. They tend to know which ones are the good guys. In particular they will know which GPs will prescribe test strips and which won't!

I was sorry to leave my local Thatcham practice - they were 'diabetes aware' and had a good diabetes nurse as well.

As previously discussed, the plebotomists at Newbury are also very good.

From reading this forum it is very obvious that the approach to diabetes care varies dramatically between different areas and practices.

Perhaps we should have a 'diabetes kite mark' for practices which for example provide a dedicated diabetic nurse and which will prescribe test strips and lancets as required.
This would make it a lot easier to find a practice with a positive involvement with diabetes care.

My Gp practice in theale is fine it's the RBH I have issues with
