Hi all

So I had an appointment on the 2nd of March where I was expecting my prescription to be changed from Libre 1 to Libre 2 but then Fiasp was more talked about and my results although Libre 2 was mentioned and was added along with Fiasp so two changed!

First question, we reported that the prescription was written and the DSN said we wouldn’t have to worry as if it was written they can still change it! Only problem? 5 days since and the prescription was ready, so it was ordered around a similar time to when the appointment took place, therefore given my last prescription with NovoRapid and Libre 1s so have to wait until April but who cares? I don’t! As long as I get my Fiasp and Libre 2s in 2021 I’ll be fine and plus if we declined it due to a recent prescription change they only knew about as the script was finalised we could be living too dangerously!

Second of all how has your experience been with those two items as I’m due to get them around a similar time

Hiii,
I have both the free style libre 2 and use Fiasp. I definitely prefer Fiasp as there is no waiting time (or very little )between taking the incilin and eating the meal so I would highly recommended as it brought my sugars down.
On the free style libre I find it is useful because of alarms and alerting hypos I may not realise on my own. If these are available to you I would highly recommend!!!

That’s useful thank you, although I got a copy of the appointment report sent to me and it says in the Actions for GP part of it to issue those two products :)

I’m still stuck using NovoRapid and Libre 1 until April but nobody is to blame as the appointment was done while the pharmacy was filling my script that contains NovoRapid and Libre 1s. But it is my last month on these two before my prescription changes happen.

I respect your ethics, @22nw22 .
I have seen others say they have moved on to their new Libre 2 even though they still have NHS funded Libre 1. This feels like a huge waste.
Like you my prescription was changed when I had some of the older sensors. Then I had a couple of failed sensors replaced and Abbott would only replace like with like so my Libre 2 have now been sitting in my drawer for 6 weeks as I use up my Libre 1s and their replacements.

I mean the timing between the appointment and the script being ready played a role but I was planning on using them until they have expired or at least one of them

I've been moved on to Libre 2, but like you have some Libre 1's to use up first, and a faulty one to be replaced. If I order a scanner for Libre 2, will the one for Libre 1 stop working, as they want the serial number of it, not sure why?

Hi,

Exciting times.
Fiasp? I can't help you with. I still get on great with Novorapid as a compliment to my diatary choice.

The L2? It's an alright bit of kit. The tech I use as a reader however. Since the switch still needs a little tweak on a "workaround" due to a changed algorithm.

Hi,

Now I don't work for Abbott. But I have worked in engineering production. (Weirdly BT controllers for 4 way industrial valves.)
They probably need your faulty sensor's serial number to track the fault back with the batch number to the guy on assembly. They will investigate the fault & possibly tighten up "quality control?"

Just an educated guess... :)

I have to admit, in all the time I've used them in over 2 years? I have never had one fail.

You do not need to return your Libre 1 scanner. You can keep this and get a shiny new Libre 2 scanner
They want to serial number as proof you have a scanner, that's all. I assume they are keeping track so you can't claim a second Libre 2 scanner for your diabuddy.

Jaylee is most certainly right. Abbott will want the serial number to check for manufacturing quality control purposes (almost all manufacturing will have similar quality control processes in place. That's (partly) what bar codes and serial numbers are used for on product/product packaging).

We are still waiting in our CCG area for the CCG to allow GPs to prescribe the Freestyle Libre 2. Doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon.

I do not know as we have to call up our GP to get my Libre 2 reader

22nw22, if you are already using the Freestyle Libre 1 and have a Freestyle Libre 1 reader, I don't understand why you have to go through your GP to get a Libre 2 reader as Abbott have been replacing Libre 1 readers with Libre 2 readers free of charge.

On the Abbott website (in January at least) Abbott had a link to a form that needed to be completed which allowed existing users to be sent a Freestyle Libre 2 reader free of charge.

Here is the link: https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/fsl2Replacement.html

The online form does ask existing users to state the serial number of their Freestyle Libre 1 reader (which is obviously to confirm that the person completing the form is indeed the owner of a Freestyle Libre 1 reader and therefore entitled to a free Libre 2 reader).

You do not have to return your Libre 1 reader to Abbott.

Hospital said to call someone although I have been confused....I do not know everything about free l2 readers

No your Libre 1 scanner will not stop working, it’s just to keep track of who’s claiming

Thanks everyone for your replies.
@Jaylee it was Abbott asking for the scanner serial number that I was querying thanks, but my post maybe wasn't very clear, sorry. I've had to send a few sensors back and understand the reason they need the serial number from them. Yesterday's issue was a new one for me though. Having lined up the 2 lines on the applicator and sensor, normally it presses together, without any real pressure, but yesterday it took all on to press together, so i knew there was a problem. When it came to apply it, no amount of pressure would work, it just wouldn't budge. Was very thankful to have a spare. Frustratingly the 1st sensor then applied itself very easily to the settee, aagh. Don't you just love it when that happens!!!
