Filing toe nails ?

I have psoriatic arthritis which is (among other places) is in my hands and my thumbs don't work very well which means I can't cut my own toe nails as I can't use clippers or scissors. My nails also have psoriasis in them which means they are thickened and shatter when they are cut. Hope no one is eating their tea

I explained this to the diabetic nurse and she has told me to file them which is also going to be difficult but will give it a go. I was hoping she was going to refer me to a podiatrist as I don't want to ask my husband to do it for me even though he would gladly do it. I can't really afford to pay privately but it seems I'm going to have to. Does anybody have a similar problem that can give me some tips.

As far as I know you can self refer to a Podiatrist because you are a Diabetic. If there is an NHS Podiatry clinic at your Hospital or Health centre why not give them a ring and find out .

Hi Lemonie.

Yes diabetics can be seen by a podiatrist. I have a fungal infection on my nails and I was fed up with trying to file mine in order to cut them so I told my GP and he got me to a podiatrist. He had my nails done in a few minutes, where it took me nearly 2 hours! I should go and see one. :)
