Saw the DN today for the first time since I was diagnosed last week. She has put me on 1 x 500mg metformin tablet a day for two weeks, raising to 2 then 3 a day. She is sending me onto the X pert course. She did a quick run through on diet, and I explained I was doing low carb high protein, she said good. I didn`t tell her I was eating less than 50gms of carb a day, I am not sure how that would go down  Miracle of miracles, I got a monitor, and I will get strips prescribed so I can work out how food is reacting BG wise. I will keep this nurse!

I have done my first test before eating, and my reading is 6.2. I am pleased with that as all readings taken so far haven`t been lower than 10. something. I have only been strict carb reducing since Monday

Well done and congrats on your Nurse. What is happening? That is the third "good experience" with nurses I have read about here lately.

Can they all be reading this forum?

I hope you continue to get satisfactory readings Jeannemum! Geting some fast results certainly helps to keep us on track.

Jeannemum,

We are new to low carbing too and have been having great results. Yet to visit doctor/nurse since we have been doing it so no idea how they will react

Thanks Unbeliever and Topsec. I was so impressed by her loveliness I told her I would keep her as she was so good. A bit of flattery can go a long way. As for the blood reading, I am beyond impressed. I will retest in just over an hour to see what my evening meal has done. 15 carb grams eaten tonight.

I am newly diagnosed too, and have no DN appointment. I bought a meter but won't tell them  It's so nice when you feel you have the support of your HCT. My Doctor is great, but wouldn't give me a meter. As far as I am aware, I am waiting for an appointment for hospital for an eye check, and nothing else until a 6 week blood check, then see Doctor a week after that. I can't say I am bothered as I feel advice here from people who live with diabetes every day will help me more than text book advice.
