After a few attempts I finally managed to get enough blood to test. My fasting reading was 5.8. 2 hours after breakfast (2 boiled eggs, 2 slices ham, tea with soya milk) my reading was 5.5. I then had a banana and took the dog for an hour's walk. My reading 2 hours after eating the banana was 5.4.

Am I doing this right? Am I doing too many tests and too close together? I thought the banana would make my bs spike.

I was pleased with my morning BG levels so did not test at lunch time..I had homemade tomato and sweet potato soup with a slice of rye bread with Philly light cheese spread so don't think that would have raised my BG to much..
I will test before my evening meal later

An hour's walk is good for lowering blood glucose levels and it may have adequately dealt with any spike caused by the banana.

Are you testing too much? In the beginning overdoing the testing is understandable in order to find out what's going on. Later you will learn when you don't need to test.

My nurse thinks I only test once a day. At least that what her rationing of test strips caters for. There is no way I would have learned anything by only testing once a day.

thank you for your replies. I resisted testing after my yoghurt and blueberries but will test 2 hours after my lunch as I had cheese and crackers which I am sure will put bs up. I was supposed to be having homemade soup but it wasn't very nice!

In the early days it is helpful to keep a record of what you had at your meal and what the readings were before and 2 hours after. From this you will learn how much that meal increased your blood sugar and hence what you can safely eat in the future.

Crackers and cheese look fairly safe in your case.
