This Thursday 9.00 I go to DN for my first test after 4 months of LCHF DIET. I am T2 have never eaten sugar except 2 slices of granary Wholemeal bread for breakfast, now no carbs in my diet !
My HBA,C progression was: 56, 66, 72, 90 & 98 on meds - Glicklazide and Metformin . After reading for hours on end about LCHF from varying sources I am determined to reverse my T2 against all advice from my NHS specialist Diabetic Nurse!
wish me luck.

Welcome and GOOD LUCK :) I will look forward to seeing your results. I will bet they are great

Hopefully you have been home testing regularly. That would give you a good sense of what results to expect...

All the best!

Kokhongw, My DN won't allow home testing she claims that it is her job to monitor my bloods!

Oh wow, she sounds very arrogant to me. You are the one with diabetes and you are the one that is in charge of looking after yourself, and choosing what to eat, and how to exercise. How can you make effective decisions with no information. You would not drive at night with no headlights. Most important, you are the one that has to live with the consequences, not her. I am not in the UK but I am sure the good people on this forum will point you in the direction of the most cost effective meter. I wish you well.:)

Did you ask her if she intends to visit your home several times a day to take your blood before and after meals?

Without testing you are working blind and will find it very difficult to get your levels down as far as you would like. Once you start to test you realise just what certain foods do to your levels, and there are a lot of surprises. Testing, alongside a food diary, is the best way to learn and keep you on track. Otherwise you are relying on infrequent HbA1c tests, and then have no idea why they aren't as good as you hoped.

At 77 yrs of age I am able to have a test meter and strips free. Some time back the local chemist asked if I would join a testing program operated by a competitor supplier, when I agreed and the info got back to my Nurse Practitioner who monitors my T2 she ordered the equipment be handed back and that she will look after testing 3 monthly.

So are you going to accept that? Or are you going to buy a meter?

Many of us here use the Codefree because it has the cheapest strips available (under £6 for 50 if you buy in bulk and use the discount code)

Try here for the Codefree meter

Pharmacies don't sell them, and don’t forget to declare you are diabetic in order to avoid any VAT.

These are the discount codes if you buy in bulk
5 packs 264086
10 packs 975833

I wouldn't worry too much about what your DN days or think, do what is necessary and helpful to manage your glucose level. At the end of the day, unfortunately we and our family are the ones who have to bear with the pain and consequence of poorly managed glucose level...:(

It would be quite comical to think that an NHS employee would tell somebody what they can or cannot do.....

If it wasn't so hard, if not impossible to actually get the results of the "official" tests she might have a point.

It took 4 "The Doctor says they are fine" attempts at a block by the receptionist before I even managed to find out my HbA1c from my last test, and I gave up trying to find out my Cholesterol numbers as she wasn't letting me have those without an arm wrestle first

Well, taking your advice folks, I went round to my Dr Surgery and saw Senior Nurse Practitioner, when I left I had a "Gluco/Rx Nexus" blood glucose monitoring system!!
Still waiting for bloods results but at least I know that after 4 months of rigid LCHF diet my reading today x 2 = 5.7 followed 5 hrs later with 5.5!
You guys won't believe this but previous regular home testing showed; 16, 18 or 20!!!!
I was resident in hospital for shoulder repair 2 yrs ago when staying overnight following operation the duty nurse woke me saying that she was very very concerned as my BS was showing 20. I was able to assure her that it wasn't her fault as I usually had very high BG.
So 5.7 & 5.5 is magnificent and I've lost 1 stone in 4 months also!!?@@?? Hooray.

I am so very happy for you and looking forward to your blood test results. I am particularly interested in your lipid profile and your liver profile (ggt, alt, ast) and how they compare to 4 months ago.

Blood Test Results in post today.
Blood glucose level = 5.3 mol/L. HbA1c level = (IFCC standardised) 39 mmol/mol HbA0.
Liver AST serum = 25 u/L
Serum cholesterol = 3.3 mmol/L, HDL = 2 mmol/L
Serum triglycerides = 0.8 mmol/L

JenniferG; I have no idea what all the different numbers mean except that my BG is good & HbA1c is good, I can't identify any headings "ggt, alt"
Would they be under any other heading?

I self tested yesterday both before food and 2 hrs after:
B 3.9, A 5.8. B 5.2, A 5.4. B 5.4, A 5.7.
All good as far as I can see. No testing today as Diabetic Nurse said every other day then once a week.

3 months time back for blood test.

Attaboy. Stuff it to 'em

Next time you see your DN you can sit there with a smug grin on your face and not explain how you did it.

Thank you to LCHF Diet which I don't find difficult to follow rigidly. I miss the fruit and also 2 toast at breakfast. There is a heck of a lot of things we can eat!!

Just read the thread, really well done!
Just a thought on the bread, I eat, occasionally Livlife bread from Waitrose, tiny slices at 3.8 gms carbs per slice, very nice as an occasional treat, coincendentally just had two eggs on two slices of this bread for lunch, flippin delish!!
