Hi guys,
I went for my first check up a couple of weeks ago, three weeks after diagnosis. At diagnosis I was told my A1C was 10% and given a leaflet explaining the test with space to write down the results. At this check up I saw the same consultant and my new A1C is 6.7%. He said that I couldn't have had an A1C of 10% three weeks earlier. He said there was nothing on the computer and they don't always record the A1C at diagnosis because it is always so high or maybe they just forgot to enter it.
Strange thing is, the doc was showing me the results on the computer screen, comparing lipid results etc and I saw the diagnosis A1C result. My friend (a nurse) was with me at both visits and remembered that the doc told me the result, that it was 10% and she also saw it on the computer screen.
I was diagnosed on the basis of a blood glucose test at the GP (11.0) and referred to the clinic as my white blood count was high. The confirmation of diagnosis came via the A1C of 10% measured at the clinic.
This is all probably irrelevant but I'm wondering whether it is possible to reduce the A1C with diet and excercise by that level in three weeks. If the doc is right and it's not possible either one of the test results is wrong or I've got strange blood cells!
Many thanks!
