Hi,

My daughter (2 years old on Friday) has been fitted with a pump today! We are thrilled, and so far she seems to be accepting it well.
Just wondered if anyone has any tips for sleeping with it? She wriggles around quite a lot, I've currently got it in a 'Pumpy' character pouch, lying next to her. But not sure if this is the best approach.
Would really appreciate any tips for toddlers wearing the pump - day and night.

Thanks :D

Hi toddlermum, that's great news that your little girl is getting on well with her pump. My daughter wears a tummietote belt from tallygear to hold her pump. She finds it very comfortable and wears this during the day and at night when she sleeps. It fits snugly around her tummy so doesn't move much although if she's had a very wriggly night's sleep then it might have slipped around to be facing her back but the tubing from the pump is long enough to reach without pulling. She did use the stuffed animal pouch but was finding that she'd get up in the morning and forget about the pump only for it to be dangling behind her which she didn't find very comfortable.

hi
glad things are going well, dylan uses the lenny the lion pump case and general cuddles it or has it lying beside him with no problem at all its been his best friend at night lol
hope things continue to go well

Thanks for your replies, think we'll have a go with some different things and see which works best - guess that's all you can do!
Thanks for advice :-)

Well done on the pump!

S got her pump at the beginning of March. I too was concerned about nights and bought a belt from diabete-ezy (from Australia) as that sits really close to the body and doesn't have any buckles etc. I also bought a spibelt (from America) and she tended to wear that in the day. Within a week or so she just wore the spibelt day and night. She says it is more comfortable, but I can't see how lying on a buckle can be. We have the accu chek combo so I never even touch the pump except to check it over once a day: maybe she forgets about it if she doesn't have to change the belt? Anyway, I thoroughly recommend the spibelt; there is someone on another forum who has started making pump belts for children and they look really good too, with a clear plastic window if you need to access the pump to bolus. Funky pumpers, maybe?

It's amazing - I spent a long time worrying about S having something permanently attached to her, but now don't even notice. I forgot to take the old cannula out yesterday morning - only realised when I caught her jumping from a wall today and saw a dangling end of cannula not attached to anything....The pump is now just a part of her as glasses would be.

Hi Mary,

Thanks very much for such a positive reply, we have got a couple of the funky pumpers pouches and they do seem to be working well, will have a look at the one you recommend too tho. It's so lovely and reassuring to hear it becomes as normal as wearing glasses - thank you.
