Today was my first day injecting 10iu of Humulin M3 insulin. The process was fine and without any problems and it was quite painless - so my worries were unfounded. The only problem is that I felt increadably sleepy and ended up falling asleep for about 4 hours!
Has anyone else experienced side effects like sleepyness when they first started on insulin?
Will this continue or will I get used to it?
I havn't been able to get hold of my nurse or doctor yet to find out from them, but was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar problems when they first started on insulin?

Hi IOPan, I'm sure someone will be along soon to advise you. I noticed on your profile you are T2, and your diet you describe as low sugar. As you peruse this forum you may notice alot of folk low carb, have you had any advise about your diet?

I wonder what your glucose levels were when you slept. Some people sleep because they are high but I have found that I sometimes sleep when my glucose levels are quite low after a meal ie too much insulin for the carbs eaten. It could be either.
This is the activity profile for the insulin you are using , as you can see it reaches it's peak activity in the 2-4 hour timeslot

Do contact your doctor/nurse and try to keep a close eye on your blood glucose levels.

Do you have a profile for Humalog Mix 25 please?

Thanks. Jude

The very same is happening to me. I've just started on Humulin M3 (been on it 3 days). The morning dose is fine, but it's the evening one. I take it, then about 20 mins later I'm fast asleep, to then wake up wide awake 2-3 hours later. I've only just woken up again after taking my evening one at 7pm tonight. Weird.
