Hi I've recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and I'm on 1 metformin a day building up to two then three. I've changed my diet to all the appropriate foods this week and did my first test this morning before breakfast. My level came back at 13.2 which I feel is strangely high for first thing in the morning anyone have any thoughts.

Hello and welcome to the forum

It is high, but what were your diagnostic test results? HbA1c? Fasting blood glucose? It may not be high for you at this moment in time.

Our morning fasting levels are usually the last to come down because there are so many factors influencing it that are outside our control. Keep testing your meals, before you eat and at 2 hours after. Then let us know those results, along with what you ate.

Hi and thanks for reply. My Hba1c was 83 I haven't had a fasting blood glucose test done. I shall be doing my before lunch test in a little over am hour so I will be interested to see what the result will be.

Evidence is inconclusive for an ideal amount of total fat intake for people with diabetes;
therefore, goals should be individualized; fat quality appears to be far more important than quantity.
In people with type 2 diabetes, a Mediterranean-style, MUFA-rich eating pattern may benefit
glycemic control and CVD risk factors and can therefore be recommended as an effective alternative to a lower-fat, higher-carbohydrate eating pattern.

An HbA1c of 83 equates to a reading of 12.9mmol/l (the units on our meters), so your fasting result this morning was not high for you, but needs to come down. Your meter will help you bring it down if you test your foods and learn what you can or can't cope with.
