Hi All,

I was diagnosed with Type 1, back in April. I hadnt done any exercise since then.
(I have an office job so sit down all day, have three kids so a little active at night/weekends but nothing really.)

This morning I went for my first run (in the safty of home, on a treadmill).
As this was my first. I thought I would take BG before and after.
Which I got surprising results.

0600 - Woke up - Had a quick wash.
0607 - BG test - 6.5. This is normal for me.
0608 - Started my run.
0618 - Ended my run. Only did 10mins on speed 7. Didnt want to push myself too hard for the first time. Had a shower got dressed.
0631 - BG test - Here it got intresting. I thought my levels would of been the same or a little lower, having burned some off. But instead my BG was 7.2.
0645 - Breakfast.

How is it, that the levels have gone from 6.5 to 7.2, within 25mins, not having anything to eat / drink and doing a little exercise ! I find this a very odd result.

Both tests were done using the same meter (OneTouch VerioPro) and the test strips from the same batch/tub.

All thanks for the info. I also emailed my DN at the same time with the query

Their reply..

When you exercise you release energy in the form of glucose from your muscles
This result’s in elevated readings at the time the problem is about 6-8 hrs later usually you have to pay back
This may result in having a hypo 6-8 hrs post exercise to prevent this occurring you can either sip lucozade whilst exercising or reduce
Your insulin at that meal time by 1 unit maybe 2 dependand on the intensity of the exercise

Hope this makes sense
