First Eye Check

I’ve been invited very last minute for my first diabetic eye screening tomorrow. I haven’t had any information other than a voicemail to give me a time and place - just wanted to check will I be able to drive after it? And will the results be given the same day? Thanks all.

Hi @Onlinecaroline, you're very likely to be given eye drops to dilate your pupils, so no you won't be able to drive afterwards. They make your vision very blurry and you may get a headache. Definitely take sunglasses to wear afterwards, even if it's a really dull day. You'll probably get the results by letter after your appointment, the person doing the screening may comment if there's anything obvious but they may not make any comment. Hope that helps :)

Usually, your eyes will be dilated so you won't be able to drive for a few hours afterwards. Best to get a lift and take sunglasses if it is a sunny day. Results can be up to 6 weeks in theory but more likely to be within about 2 weeks.
