51 or 6.8 in old terms is a fantastic start. perhaps the nurse is just starting off being pessimistic so as not to create too much expectation for you and your daughter. in the honeymoon period the body still produces some of its own insulin meaning it can be harder to prevent unexpected lows and making things more unpredictable generally. honeymoon period can last for quite some time too.( many months or up to a year )
at this point i would just be thrilled with the great work you both have accomplished and continue 1 day at a time and certainly don't worry.
( and prove the nurse wrong hopefully next time )

It's a great HbA1c, and all power to you. As you get more experienced and confident in diabetes, you'll be able to decide for yourself what sort of targets to aim for for your daughter, and discuss with your team how to get there. If it's affordable for you guys at all, a great tool in managing your daughter's diabetes would be the freestyle Libre. It costs about £100 a month, but you can do it for one or two months at a time, and no startup cost. It means you can keep an eye on her BG without pricking all the time, and in her sleep. Also, you can experiment with how far ahead to inject and what the effect of that is on cutting spikes/keeping BG even and low.

For me, that knowledge has made a real difference. I got control at last.
