I have just done my first blood glucose test as a prediabetic with my Codefree monitor. Messed up the first time before I really got the hang of how to use it. First I could not get the tab off the lancet then first attempt did not put it close enough to my finger so did not pierce it enough for blood tried again got the blood but by now the monitor was showing an error think it was because the test strip had been in to long without using it so changed that pierced again and got a reading of 5.6 this was before my breakfast so will test again in about two hours. In the Codefree pack was a small strip on it's own in a little plastic packet that says.. check strip.. does anyone know what this or how to use it it doesn't say in the instructions

Was wondering does taking blood pressure tablets affect levels

I have done my first test today too! It took three goes to get enough blood for the monitor to read it but eventually I got a reading of 5.8 which was before my breakfast. 2 hours after breakfast (2 boiled eggs, 2 slices ham and tea with soya milk) I got a reading of 5.5.

Dear Maybird,
I'm not that familiar with the Codefree B/G monitor, but someone will probably correct this, but I would think that the additional 'spare check test strip' that you are refering to is something that you have been supplied with is something that can be used with to check the calibration accuracy of your test meter. This is something that many manufactures supply, and I would suggest that to confirm if this is the case, then you contact the manufacturer's web site and/or send them a suitable Email.

Don't worry about the minor difficulties that you have in using your B/G meter at this stage, it's something we all get through and will come automatically to you once you've done it a few more times. The 5.6 mmol/L morning reading is good news.

As for the blood pressure tablets, well I've been on a variety of differing types over many years and have never found any to adversly raise or lower my own B/G readings.

Best wishes - Lazybones

Got a second reading approx 3 hours after breakfast of 5.4. Breakfast was one slice of Allinson wholemeal toast scrambled egg with low fat grated cheese and chopped spring onion and tomato so does that sound about right

Glad I was not the only one then to mess up the first time lol, sounds like we both had good levels
