FIRST NON-MEDS HBA1C

Many many congrats, haven't you done well, really pleased for you.

My turn next to try without the 2 x Metformin per day.

Again super result.
Ahh....Thank you john! I guess it is an achievement, do you know when you might be dropping your metformin yet?

Where you told to come of medication. Or did you do it by choice?
I mentioned a couple of symptoms- waking suddenly in the night very hot etc to my GP and he said I could be dropping to low overnight (which I knew I wasn't as when testing I was still hovering in the 5's) so to try stopping meds given that I was at a non - diabetic level by then too.
Need to see gp again as the hot nights etc still happening so proof it's not meds induced, more hormonal is my assumption to be honest

Not sure yet after diagnosis in May last year have only seen DN once and that was to argue about my unwillingness to up dosage to 4 met per day. Still only on 2.

I think in the next 2/3 weeks I'll go down to one and continue to monitor and see how it goes.

Not knocking the NHS but their general view seems to be knock out the pills and see what happens.

I am not a believer in pills and potions unless as a last resort.

Still this is about you and your result another big well done from me.

Like your thinking on trying to decrease off your own doing first John, a lot of us on here wouldn't have made progress of we had just taken the standard nhs stock advice as we all know!! My dn just returned my call regarding when next reviewed, (which will be my annual review due on my birthday- a new system at our surgery for all) and told me she would like me to write a book please!! I think the tide may be turning on the thinking at long last

Has anyone had difficulty getting the free meters they offer

Fantasic result, very well done and keep up the good work

Mark

Great stuff Kimbo, you've been an inspiration to so many on here

Just to add my congratulations.

Make me wonder just how much money this forum is saving the NHS, you are off meds, I'm down from 4 Metformin a day to 3 (hopefully just the start of the decrease for me) and I know there are plenty of others here who have reduce or come off tablets. Hopefully what we do will be recognised one day by the medical profession.

Ahh....Thank you Rod! ! I know for a fact I wouldn't have got this far had I not cone on here and had such great advice and support from all of you from day 1! You all inspired me so I hope I can give some back to someone too

To think even when I started just over 7 months ago, any hcp I mentioned lchf to brushed it off, all of a sudden they seem to be changing opinion now!
Hope your decreasing continues well Ruth!

Great news, well done @kimbo1962 . Think my last one was 39 too.

Have a great weekend

If you're not feeling up to a book, I'm sure you could help the surgery with a leaflet or short booklet summarising your progress and the aids/resources you untilised on your way. Provided you didn't use language like "idiot nurse" or "complete emit doctor", I'm sure it could be written in a manner sympathetic to the needs of T2, whilst acknowledging the challenges the conventional NHS wisdom and lack of funding for testing brings to bear on the newly diagnosed and health care professionals alike.

I've been considering drafting something to submit to my surgery when next back in UK.

Me too after my next results, especially after the DN said I would make a good case study for the practice last time. I'd even do a presentation to them if they wanted.

I think the power of the message is diluted without the presentation. To read that someone lost dog, and shifted their bloods by y amount and feels great is really hammered home by the person beaming in front of them.

As the HCPs would thereafter be delivering the message, their seeing is their believing. We all know it's easier to enthuse about something we've seen or experienced, rather than just heard or read about. The power of "here" is the constant reinforcement of the "I am that person" message.

We've all heard about some bloke down at the pub eating no carbs, and LOADS of fat, but we probably wouldn't just have cracked on and done it.

Well, OK, I wouldn't have.

I certainly would be willing to help in some way - simply by letting them know how I've approached it and the results I'm getting! I'm meeting my daughters work college for coffee to do just that next week too
