Hello,

I am very unsure about being here, not because I am type 2 diabetic. I am unsure because I am in New Zealand and stumbled on this site via Facebook. Currently New Zealand diabetics are facing big problems with meters and accurate readings. Our government and Pharmac have chosen to save $10 million New Zealand Dollars by only fully funding one make of diabetic equipment. Caresens® for Korea. The meters we have had can still be used Accu-Chek Proforma ,Freestyle, Optium Xceed etc. However to do so you will now have to pay full retail prices for them which you all know is very costly.
These meters which we are forced to use are giving rather questionable results. I will leave you to do you research into this rather than me getting into any details than could come back at me.
I noted that neither the meter that I use and thousands of other New Zealanders do or CareSens® are listed as being used in the United Kingdom.
Just as side note I am kiwi born and breed, however I am also half Scot as my mother was from Renfrew ,Scotland. My father was kiwi and his heritage can be traced from two generations before him to England. My mothers mother is from Wigan, Lancs (well Greater Manchester today).

Hi whiteclouds,

I too am a type 2 controlled by diet only after many years on medication. I stopped testing a long time ago when my practice said I didn't need to, they would keep an eye on my condition for me. I think surgerys were realising that a way of saving money would be to reduce the number of test strips being handed out. Or maybe it's a government thing? Anyway, keep delving into the other sections on this site, I hope it helps.
New Zealand isn't that far away. Some friends of mine met a kiwi when he was on holiday here in Cornwall. He liked the Austin Sevens that my friends owned and said if they ever came to New Zealand he would buy some A7s for them to use! Apparantly they are fairly cheap there. My friends liked the idea so much, they did it! The man was true to his word and had a couple of A7s ready for them when they got there. My friends took a friend with them who bought an A7 to drive around New Zealand while they were there. He liked it enough to bring it back to Cornwall with him where it was given the name... wait for it... Kiwi!
It's a small world my friend made smaller by the internet. Welcome.
Lee
