No pre meal reading?

This site is more than just the forums. All sorts of useful information. Like this https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

Pre prandial is important so you can see what the meal itself does to you. The goal is no more than a 2mmol rise after 2hrs for most of us.

Ideally and ultimately in my opinion you’ll want post meals to be under 7.8mmol, for now 8.5mmol is the usually advised level for type 2. A lot of people don’t consider this optimal though, just what has been decided as realistic and achievable given the way type 2 has been viewed and treated medically in the past. Up to you how ambitious you want to get once you’ve got a handle on it all. No need to do it all in a day. As often stated in here it’s a marathon not a sprint !

Hello @Louisesw50

Can you tell us which type of diabetes you have, and which medications (if any) you are taking?

If you go to your profile settings and look for personal details, you will see some options to tick which type of diabetes you have, your treatment, and your medications. Your type of diabetes will then show under your avatar. This will help everyone to respond appropriately. It does make a difference when considering whether your levels are acceptable.

No I've only got the reader tonight

Well done on getting a meter and wading straight in. Remember to record all your readings (and if you plan to use diet as a tool then record your readings alongside what you ate). An 8 is not optimal but let's be honest here it is better than a reading in the teens which is not unusual for someone just starting out.

We are here to support you so keep testing and keep learning. Good Luck.

Top of the page you will see your user name (top right). Hover your cursor over that and a drop down box appears. Chose "personal details" and scroll down till you see type of diabetes, treatment, medication. Fill those in then scroll to bottom and press save.
