Hi all,

New type 2.

Got a Libre 2 sensor today and started experimenting.

When I had my blood test last week and diagnosis, my hba1c was 96/10.9. Been limiting carbs a bit more (around 100g a day), and this morning the sensor gave me 69/8.5 when I woke up. Appreciate the hba1c is three month average and spikes affect it.

Now I'm testing my tolerance, so this morning I had a pretty chunky crust piece of brown toast for breakfast, along with some yogurt and blueberries and peanut butter.

These were the results:

8.5 ( 8:10am, immediately before)
10 (9.10 am, 1 hour later)
8.9 (9.33am, 1.5 hours later)

My two hour number was hampered by the fact I had to have more yog and blueberries because I'd forgotten my Metformin (first ever time taking it), so that was 9.4.

It's three hours later and I'm on 8.3.

Now, I know my numbers are high but it's only been a week and I'm working on getting them down, but here's my question - because that spike stayed inside two points, will it likely do that when my numbers are better? Or am I getting my hopes up that I can manage a slice of bread?

Rice for lunch, will see how that goes.

I would say that’s a decent level post food, high but you don’t seem to have spiked. What I will add though, is are you finger pricking to check your figures?

Only reason I ask is I’ve read lots on the forum about Libre readings being inaccurate especially reading low in the first few days. I’ve also read some members apply the Libre for a couple of days before they activate it to improve accuracy. I haven’t tried the libre yet (arriving today) so I’ve no personal experience.

But I do know bread spikes my sugar terribly. Brown or white. That said, it might be okay for you, or you might spike much later. We’re all different in what we are able to tolerate.

I feel sure that when I used a Libre 2 it only offered an estimated HbA1c once it had collected seven days worth of data. How have you got a value of 69 on the first day? Are you using a different App?

Take advantage of your CGM's ability to show the value/time of the peak in addition to thinking about the 1hr or 2hr values.

If you haven't read 'The Glucose Goddess' by Jesse Inchauspe then I think you might get a lot from it. My local library had it in and yours might too. There are a number of illustrations in it so I don't think the audiobook would be of much use. She's got a second book out but I suspect it's just a rehash of the first so go with the original.
