Been diagnosed type 2 about 6 weeks now. Yesterday I bought a Acu-Chek Aviva blood glucose meter and did my first test when I got up this morning. My reading was 5.3 which I was delighted with. How accurate are these monitors?
Monitors are only a guide and not precision instruments. There have been many discussions before about this subject. They are all built to EC standards and should be + or - 10%. Accurate enough for them to be used as a guide in Hospitals and for home SMBG.
Fasting level is fine, what are your levels 2 hrs after meals is more important.......
As a newly diagnosed member here is the Basic Advice for Newly Diagnosed that my pal Sue and I hand out regularly. Have a read.
As you are having Rice (slower acting carbs) with it you might want to throw in a check at around 3 hrs ......mine will rise after such a meal and doesn't drop back until after about 4 hrs. However we are all different and not everybody has the same response......
