I do not have diabetes
Hi my name is Andrea and I live in the UK. Life had been great until a few months ago when I started noticing I was thirsty and urinating all of the time. Went to the doctors and my sugars were 28.3 so sent to the hospital but when I got there it was 8.1 so sent home with a meter and strips but now they have run out. Been monitoring myself and my sugars have been very high some days but the weird thing is that they go down on their own. My lowest has been 3 and my hba1c was 41.
I am very confused about what this could be?

I think you should go back to the doctor and ask to have more strips to monitor yourself and see what raises your glucose. It isn't good for you to have very high levels.

Your hbA1c, as I expect you know, puts you just outside the pre-diabetic category. However, this test is an average and can mask the fact that you are experiencing huge peaks and troughs, which will be very harmful especially to your kidneys, in the long term. I totally agree with Arab Horse, you do need to go back to your GP asap and try to get a regular supply of strips so you can modify your diet intelligently.

At age 19, have they carried out any tests to rule out type 1? In the mean time you need test strips and a means to test for ketones which will not be easy on a bank holiday weekend.

If you feel the symptoms of high sugars, please call 111 for advice.
