Flaxseed for constipation / slow colonic transit

That really is fascinating. And gives me huge insight into what has been going on in my guts for a very long time. Even going back to pre-diabetes I was always a farty child. Looks like methane producing bacteria...

Following this and a few links, I'm going to give Allicin a try. Will let you know how that goes!

Thanks everyone, I'm being tested for these, too, so this discussion is very interesting.

Mine have to be warmed up first?? Definitely says hold in bowel for 40-45 mins!

All enemas cause me huge burning, horrid screaming pains when holding the liquid in and finally being anle to go..
Micralax caused horrendous intense burning sensation for me too. Worse than hospital enemas. Its only after microlax that I end up on gas n air, morphine and paracetomal drips. Thought I was just weak and stupidly reacting. So glad I'm not the only one!

Since I added Flaxseed and Chai seed to my diet,my system has improved a lot ,it took about three weeks, but I wouldnt be without it now,I even take it in holiday.

Oh gosh that sounds horrible... you poor thing! I would say you're definitely not the only one. Fleet does a mineral oil enema, which may be better than saline for you, and it only needs to stay in for up to 5 minutes. But hopefully you won't need to have one anyway.

thanks, good to know to give it 3 weeks next time

Will see if I can get mine replaced with the 5 min bottom clencher if I ever have to use these!! Thanks for the info..

I haven't suffered from constipation but my stomach does gurgle away and produce methane with some foods. I figured I would try organic milled flaxseed in salad dressings. Only used 1 level tsp and I've had two rear end incidents. I thnk it speeds me p too well !

I wish it would do that for me, lol!

Oh to hear a happy gurgling stomach!!

May be that the food was better working rather than the teaspoon of flaxseed. That may be conincidence?

Stomachs are a law unto themselves. Mine definitely balks at milk in tea now.

I love to hear noise coming from my stomach.. Embaressing from the gurgles it makes sometimes.. But I now know if I can't hear it then its too slow and problems ahead.
Same as I can feel food and masses of lump in me travelling slowly and I know I'm in trouble too. I think I can only feel these hard masses travelling because I'm so lean..

At least we can recognise times when we are fast or slow transitting!! Its the dread though that I feel when I know its going slow.. And it is pure dread and fear because I know how bad I'm going to be in advance of it happening... By which time its too late to change anything...

After your comments about Sweetcorn earlier in this topic @donnellysdogs, I removed it from what I was eating and saw an almost instant improvement in gastric action. Also a lot less trapped wind.

I suspect that there may be issues with SIBO for t1s linked to slower gastric transit, so I wonder whether it's worth using some of the SIBO botanical treatment approaches to see how that helps.

Thats interesting... I get hugely better transition when I have my salads... Which is when I add garlic and cinnamon, and oregano and basil and a rosemary stem and mystard to my olive oil dressing...
Never thought that these could be the reason why salads are so good but my stomach struggles with other food.. Like meat and veg...as I don't add any herbs....cinammon I add just as a supposed blood leveller!! I have large amounts of the dressing. My food literally swims in it!!

Didn't know anything about SIBO until you posted this. Thank you so much.

I had to stop sweetcorn totally and celeriac. I love both foods. Trapped wind is awful.. Know how that feels!! Even hubby does with celeriac.

Perhaps a way around meat and veg may be to make up a butter accompanienent to the veg to include the same herb ingredients.

Wicked... Thank you so much...

Still going to try beetroot at some point... Think that would be a better option for me to see how fast stomach works on certain foods...and then I can eliminate other foods that cause it to slow down.

Always so nervous at trying different foods as I know the pain and discomfort if they don't travel well!!

Dr Allison Siebecker is a great resource for SIBO and there are quite a few of her interviews on Youtube. She set up the siboinfo.com online resource that Tim linked to.

There are a couple of botanicals she recommends for gut motility - especially a German botanical called Iberogast. Another called MotilPro that you can get on Amazon. Might be worth trying.

Thank you both so much.....will research more now. Never gave it a thought that my salad dressings could be another key factor besides the flax and chia seeds...

More reading in the morning, but, I am very grateful for you both to have shared this knowledge. Thank you..,

I just cut up and add a lot into my dressings at the moment but yes I will have a scout around for capsules... Wouldn't it be fantastic if this would allow me to eat meat and veg again!!!

Amazing!!

Looked at this http://www.siboinfo.com/diet.html

I eat pretty much 90% of the foods listed. Only thing that is in the disallowed is chia seeds.. And very small slithers of feta with my salads...

I can definitely see a link on Sundays when I tried to have a hot meal... Without my salad dressing and just meat and veg. I don't eat bread, pastas, rice etc.

I'm going to concentrate on getting more of the good foods listed in my diet and I've ordered the oregano capsules from holland and barratt.

I'm not so scared now of trying to eat hot meat and veg again but will try to make a sort of garlic butter with other herbs in it too. Has given me a but more confidence to try some hot food again.

Thanks so much....can't wait till the capsules arrive. Just staggered that my oil dressing with the extras in it may be the link to why salads can travel better in me than the rest.. I just thought the food was the problem. Never dreamt that something I was making was aiding the other food I eat....
