I have a friend who in her 8o's and has been type 2 for 18 yrs + - At weekend past she took ill with loss of breath etc Doctor was called and removed to Hospital. She despite what she tells you is not good at controlling her Diabetes often find Choclates/Bottles Coke/Crisps etc, and try's to tell you her Blood Glucose is in 4's or 5's told her a few weeks ago her legs/ankles were swollen. Would I be right in thinking this is a sign of Kidney Failure/Nuropathy, or worse :(

Hello Knightwatch Sorry to hear of your friend being admitted to hospital. At least while she is there she will have lots of tests done and hopefuuly the doctors will be able to find out what is actually happening to her body.

If she has fluid retention, it could be down to her poor diabetes control, Kidney, Heart or even liver problems can cause swelling. Once the test results are back then they can give the proper medication and care. I hope your friend listens to the doctors and she starts to look after herself. She is very lucky to have a friend like you that cares. With best wishes RRB
