Hi all.
Yesterday at work I was about to start teaching and my face suddenly went red and hot and my heart was pounding. I managed to calm down and it did go away.
Should I be worried?
Thanks

I can only recommend that you go to your clinic to get this checked out, I am fairly new and inexperienced with diabetes so I can only say to get it checked out. Anything with your heart I would checked out but I clicked on this thread because I have a friend who's diabetic and his nose sometimes turn red (we call him Rudolph).

we call him Rudolph

Seriously?
The name stuck because his crush at the time called him it and it just stuck and even though that girl is long gone, we call him Rudolph still.

While facial flushing may occur while your blood pressure is higher than usual, high blood pressure is not the cause, however, if you are taking certain drugs to lower blood pressure, they work by making blood vessels dilate. I take BP medication and I can go for months without facial flushing and then one day my face is flushed and hot.

The pounding heart bit is something that needs checking with a doctor.

Were you nervous, or excited at the time? That can sometimes lead to facial flushing and a faster heart rate. Similarly, if you are a lady of a certain age, it could be a little "hello" from the menopause fairy.

I sometime get a very flushed face a hour or so after eating out. I can only guess that I have a good intolerance but have not found out what it is yet. I also get it after drinking certain red wines.

Hey @Hotpepper20000, it is likely the tannins in the red wine that you are reacting to - I get the same reaction - but I am ok with a bit of white wine....Eating out could be anything from MSG to who knows? I experience the reddening after eating even at home where I know what has been prepared by my own hands - who knows?? I know that doesn't help, but glad that someone else reacts like that! Light haired people also seem to blush more easily than darker haired persons, so maybe for me it is my body wishing it were 21 again:) :) Cheers/L
