Hi
Hoping to travel later this year to Boston and a few stops in USA. First time abroad since diagnosis, T2 on meds. Just wondered about flying, time zones etc has anyone any advice? thankyou.

I've been to the US twice since diagnosis. No problems. Your only problem may be the meals on the plane as airlines don't do low carb (I also can't eat wheat) so take your own snacks.

I flew to Gran Canaria 10 days after diagnosis in October. Admittedly only 1hrs difference but I wouldn't have worried too much about time zones if I was going to USA. I took an injection on the plane right after a meal without getting out of my seat. If your meds include injections, remember to get a letter from your GP about sharps, (although it seems unlikely you'll be challenged), tell the airline and your travel insurance company that your diabetic. Keep your meds and energy drinks with you and not in the hold.
Have a good trip.

T1 here, been travelling since a young child with no big issues, I do find my bloods go a little haywire due to being out of my normal routines but nothing major. I always get a bottle of lucozade (in addition to my usual hypo supplies) once through security and make sure it's in my hand luggage so if I need something really quick acting it's there. Immigration in the US can be quite lengthy so I always test my bloods on landing, if I'm lowish or even normal levels I'll have some carbs (also I always carry biscuits) prior to getting in the immigration line. Heat can affect insulin absorption so regular blood testing is recommended. Also as been said take a dr's note/prescription, I've been asked for it before.
