I have joined the group and forum on my husband's behalf because following a stroke three and a half weeks ago he is not able to do this himself. I have his permission to discuss his condition.

He recovered well physically from the stroke but has ideational apraxia with perseveration, which means he finds it difficult to recognise everyday objects, to plan or to understand complex instructions which is why I am responsible for his drugs and diet.

At the moment he has a lot of random symptoms like pain on the foot, back paon and diarrhoea. I have had the local paramedics out to see him today but I am wondering how diarrhoea might affect his diabetes and drugs.

Normally I would stop eating for 24 hours if I have an upset stomach but he needs his drugs and they have to be taken with food. I was wondering if anyone had been given advice about what to do in these circumstances? He is on 80 mg gliclazide in the morning with breakfast and 40 with dinner in the evening. Thanks!

Gosh @FeeB 2 - I'm sorry you find yourselves in this situation, but well done for getting here.

Nobody here can diagnose or tell you what to do with his medication as we're not, generally, medical professionals, plus of course the complications of your husband's recent stroke coming into the mix.

If he's going low, or you feel nervy (which posting here suggests you are), then a call to 111 could be helpful. If they are unable to answer your question, they will be able to talk to an out of hours doctor on your behalf, or have one call you.

I do hope he starts to perk up a bit very soon, and please do stay around the forum, there are so many members here, and some have unfortunately also experienced strokes so there could be some useful ongoing support for you both.
