I was unsure where to post this, and this is probably a question I should ask a dietitian or doctor.
The question is regarding portion size.

If I were to per say stay on my calorie and carb goal could I have as much as I want as long as it is within the calorie and carb? I'm pregnant and its very hard to try and diet (although I have been managing).
Example pasta one serving is between 28-40 grams carbs and 145 calories. A serving is like 2/3 cups.
If I were to lets say substitute this for spaghetti squash which is around 42 calories and 10 gram carbs per 1 Cup serving. If I lets say were a little hungrier than usual and wanted to have 2 cups and maybe even 3 (not saying that I would thats a whole lotta squash!) would this be okay?

I apologize for any silly questions I may ask >.<. Thank you in advance for responses.

this is a question for your health care team,,,my uninformed guess
you can substitute .. like for like within the same group...just don't swap veg calories with sugars, sucrose fructose etc

Thank you for your response. I plan on asking when I make my next visit next week, but trying to get through before I see them. I'm newly diagnosed and the hardest part for me has been portions. Doesn't help being pregnant either =/. So what I have been doing is attempting to find vegetable substitutes with lesser calories and carbs and using them as replacement.

Example, when I make a burger instead of using buns I use cabbage leaves which is probably no more than 2 carbs per leaf and maybe 10 calories at most. Then I add other vegetables to my plate in big portions (and yes I measure my veggies on a scale and count the carbs and calories) and my meals have never been over 200 calories or 40-50 carbs at most. I know this sounds stupid, but I feel guilty because it seems like I am eating to much food?

If you are reducing carby food to keep your blood sugar down you'd have to add a lot of low carb veg to make up the calories. I'd be concerned about getting enough calories. Maybe consider eating nuts if you're not allergic to them - lots of calories from "good" fat and low carb. Just a thought. The only veg I eat are low carb and I don't eat bread, pasta, rice, or potatoes, so I make up most of my calories from fat and protein.

40-50 grams of carb is about 160-200 calories (there's about 4 calories per gram of carb), so are you not eating any fat or protein? You'd have to eat something like 2 kg of fresh, non-starchy veg to get 40g carbs, so you must be eating a huge amount of veg.

But I could be completely off track here.

oh, you want to stabilise your BG or weight gain? ask your DR but when you reduce the carbs, you need to add some fats for energy and a little more protein for building and I wouldn't go under 100g a day of carb. there is some differences in ketogenic diet, fetal mice development [and I am pro low carb, keto]
there is a pregnacy page and I would post and read there, for better opinions

Thank you for your responses and I have been eating a decent amount of vegetables if I'm a little hungrier the day or for that meal and I count the calories and carbs, and if I don't meet the target the doctors give me for carb and calories I usually add a little almonds and a slice of bread. I do have protein, but usually lean protein that I measure out on a scale.

I am also trying to stabilize both weight gain and glucose. I was a little overweight prior to getting pregnant. I was actually in the process of losing weight, lost 9 kg in 2 and a half month and then went to the doctor to find out I was pregnant and type 2.
