Need suggestions for high calorie, low carb, low fat foods please. Can eat small amounts of some high fat foods, but not avocados. or too many nuts.
Still losing weight, not diabetes related, just cant seem to get enough calories in a day- having cut carbs and alcohol
average intake around 900 - 1400

I think you may struggle to find calorific foods that are low in fat and low in carbs as these are The foods we use for energy. When I lost too much weight I raised the amount of healthy fats and protein in my diet and it does seem to have done the trick so far. It is almost three months since I stopped losing weight and I did this by having more beef, more eggs and more cheese. Good luck.

If you stay low fat you will find it difficult. When I was in your position I increased my eggs, dairy and went back to an old habit of a glass of red wine each evening. That worked for me, but it did take quite a while to find the right balance using a food diary, bathroom scales and glucose meter. It was trial and error, and I had to go back to basics. I even managed to reduce my carbs at the same time, I have now maintained my ideal weight for over 4 years. By the way, I never have eaten avocado or nuts of any description.

Is there a reason you are looking for low fat @SlimLizzy ? The natural option to increase calories, where low-carbing, to maintain weight is by adding fat

Have already increased eggs, and cheese, added a few nuts, probably as far as is possible.
Moved to full fat yoghurt and cottage cheese, thanks for that advice guys, both are tastier.
Wine, if only it was that simple. Have been advised to drink less of it. Thats 150 calories need replacing with .... something ??

Hi SlimLLizzy. Not surprised you are still losing on starvation calories! Have you tried fat again to see if the IBS is still triggered?
My main suggestion would be to eat frequently and combine the fat with protein (salmon & boiled egg, cheese/egg or chicken drumstick) so that a little amount of insulin signals your body to story the fuel and not to burn from existing supplies. Perhaps you could tolerate the odd cracker or 2 to help with insulin signalling without raising your blood sugar too?
If I reverse the advice normally given to overweight people I'd say drink some calories too e.g. soups thickened with creme fraiche or coffee blitzed with some butter or coconut oil if the IBS permits.
Good luck!

hi Nicole
Apologies for late reply, have been away for a few days, now busy catching up with everything.
Unfortunately high fat does trigger IBS, it had been under control for so long, ( 20+ years) had actually forgotten about it! Which shows how knowing what you can tolerate becomes habit. Am hoping the same will eventually apply to Low Carb.
Giving up the lunchtime sandwich is hard, salad is ok in summer, winter guess it will have to be soup.
Have found cheese slices in Aldi, german smoked cheese, also with ham, or jalepeno chilli, very tasty as a calorific snack. Can eat four or five of those. Nutrition per 100g (five slices) 327calories, fat 26g, carb 3g. And yes couple of crackers wont bust the carb allowance.

.

Going down that route, more cheese in small portions, way more eggs, now having them for breakfast several times a week, more beef, ex veggie, so thats not easy, but working on it. Also having more nuts, 12 almonds with breakfast yoghurt and fruit. sometimes again as snack later in the day.

Have never counted calories/ dieted in my life, so this is all new, now aware that i need to eat more, even if not hungry. calories on average day around 1200- 1600. Carbs, was aiming for 100g but decided to increase because of weight loss, now aiming for 120.

Has this increase in carbs affected your blood sugar levels? Which diabetes medications are you on, if any?

Hi SlimLizzy - Doesn't seem like you are eating much at 1200 - 1600 calories / day. I'm a very skinny type 1 and can't seem to gain at all. However I haven't lost any further. I'm 100 lbs and 5'4" and I've been this weight for 4 months. I have to eat at least 3750 calories / day to maintain ! Incredible but true ! I walk an hour minimum per day if weather permits. I eat tons of cheese at least 750 grams nibbled over the day, 2 cups of almonds or walnuts and lots of veggies, moderate fruit, lots of meat and accompanying fat and butter. I don't eat starch, sugar or pre-made food. I have about 150 to 200 carbs / day and my blood glucose is in the good range. I wanted to give you another perspective on the weight issue. Usually my tummy wants to eat less but whenever I do I lose weight and then must eat even more to get it back. Maybe you can very gradually eat more each day in the hopes that your tummy will learn to accept it.

Am struggling to eat 1600 calories, even with deciding to increase Carbs to 120g a day.
Finding it easier to eat more if it is carefully selected ready meal, because of the nutritional information. Having no idea of Calorie/Carbs in for example; the vegetable and chorizo soup my husband made, (containing potatoes) means small portion only.

No medication, and I believe sugar levels are ok. Am begining to be able to feel the difference. Last HbA1c was reduced to 37, ( doc wont test again until Jan) so just need to find a way to maintain that, and weight.

Do eat crackers with cheese, just a couple, as you suggested, and now looking for the low(er) carb ones. As for the eating frequently, was snacking throughout the day, previously. Now advice is to eat meals - think am actually taking in less, while sometimes feeling unpleasantly full.
