Pasta? Is it a yes or a no? \when i was diagnosed it was one of the staple foods in hospital but now i read pasta is a no no? Anyone care to expand?

I'm not a Type 1, from what I have read, if you carb count for your insulin then it should be ok.

Hi,
It's really early days yet and hard to advise you. Have they told you how to adjust your insulin up or down if you are high or low before a meal because that's important even on a relatively fixed dose regime? You will eventually learn how to match your rapid insulin dose to the amount of carbohydrates in your diet.
Pasta is quite high in carbohydrate but also takes a while to absorb so I find that it's one of the more difficult foods to dose appropriately for. White pasta also doesn't have many nutrients so wholegrain is better.
At the moment I think I would think back to the amount of pasta you were given in hospital and don't eat more (or much less) than that Indeed I would think the best thing to do until you get further professional advice is to stick to the types and amounts of foods that you had in hospital.
.

ok, thanks i have a table that i check my glucose and then adjust my insulin dosage accordingly, would i be right in thinking i can eat as many olives and nuts as i like as snack foods as they have no carbs or am i mistaken?

It all depends on what pasta does to your BG readings. When newly diagnosed last spring, I tested this and found I could eat a small amount without a high reading. For me it worked out at around 50gm dry weight before cooking which makes a nice sized spag bol. Like many on here, I weigh (actually to be truthful, my wife weighs) everything I eat so that I know how many carbs & calories I have eaten.

Hi. Just Google the web or search the forum for the carbs in a typical portion of pasta and then adjust the rapid insulin to match. Olives and nuts should be fine with very low carbs.
