foot massager

Hi all. My partner has bought me a foot massager.. I used it last night. I have had stabbing cramps in my calves all night and wondered if this was anything to do with my diabetes. I am type 2 newly diagnosed. I have researched on other forums and there are only positive comments.

I bought one of those electric back massagers that you fit on a chair but when I got it home and read the instructions it said it was not recommended for diabetics to use it didn't say why but I returned it. Wonder if that is the same advice for foot massagers

I believe that some foot massager instructions say specifically that they are not suitable for diabetics. I think it's the fear that if a diabetic has neuropathy then they may not feel it if any damage is done to the feet. On the other hand I suppose that aching calves could happen to anyone after wobbling around on one of those.

I tried to buy a corn remedy and every one I saw said it was not suitable for diabetics, probably for the same reason.

I think if you've never had a foot massage before it would be quite normal to ache a little after. I wouldn't worry about it and I doubt if it would be diabetes related.

They say as diabetics we shouldn't use these foot massager's, as Squire says most do say they are not suitable for use for people who have diabetes. I would leave it well alone for now and check with your HCP's if it's safe for you to use.

Good advice, check with your doc but I must admit I don't always listen to the "not suitable for diabetics" thing as some of it is a little OTT. I shouldn't use a whirlpool or a sauna either but I'll take a calculated risk. My opinion only though, we do need to be a little more cautious with our feet.

Thanks for you advice everyone. I did have my feet checked by my doc a couple of weeks ago so I am sure they are fine. I think moderation is the key here and hope that the calls pain is due to something new. I will also speak to my doc. Thanks again. You live and learn.
