please help!
ever since i developed type 2 (9 years ago - age 52) i have started developing excrutiating foot pains.
first it was like walking on blisters. after a couple of years as if there were cuts around my toes and in the gap between them and the sole of the foot.
later i started getting intermittant stabbing pains as if someone was stabbing my feet.
most of the time socks and shoes make the pain worse.
a life long walker, my ability and range has decreased steadily. now i can comfortably walk only for about 15 mins.
i can however still cycle quite comforatably, but the anatomical posture in cycling is much closer to the natural form than our human upright posture.
my father had type 2 as well, and suffered the same thing - he descibed his as like "walking on sharp gravel in bare feet".
the pain now radiates nearly to the top of my legs, and if i stretch or walk too quickly, i get fierce cramps in my calves and thighs, only cured by a hot bath or hot water bottles, which takes 2 or 3 hours or over night.
i have had endless discussions/arguments with health professionals about this over the years.
my GP and diabetic nurse just stare at me blankly when i complain about the pains and the cramps.
from another medic i was told that the atenolol prescribed me was causing it, and that i should be on an ACE inhibitor. i was later prescribed an ACE (ramipril) but am still prescribed atenolol as well.
painkillers don't work - if they're really strong i cannot function, so i only take ibuprofen for bursitis in my left hip.
anyone know what i'm talking about? or am i suffering from something non-diabetic related?
cheers in hope
