Foot Spas

Daks

Well-Known Member
I thought seeing as I should now be taking extra care of my feet I would purchase a nice foot spa, only to discover they are not recommended for Diabetics. As I understand it, because Diabetics are more likely to burn themselves due a lack of sensation / feeling / nerve damage.

Am I the only one who thinks this is tripe ? Or is it a valid concern for most ?

I'm pretty sure Id know what kind of heat I was putting my feet into, especially seeing as it's an issue for Diabetics.

They all come with that warning Daks, its because some people can develop neuropathy of the feet and may harm themselves.

Is it a valid concern? ...............I'd have to say Yes and No to tripe.

Fair enough, would the same rule apply to resting your feet in a bowl of warm water you prepared ?

I understand, guess I was just taken back being newly diagnosed. All the same I will purchase one, I'm confident I can monitor temperature, especially seeing as it's an issue.

You'll find with a lot of foot-care products that they'll say Not Suitable for Diabetics, if ever in doubt check with a podiatrist or your gp.

I think another concern may be the soaking itself. I have neuropathy and both my GP and my podiatrist said not to soak my feet because diabetics need to make sure they dry their feet very carefully after washing. I guess they are of the "don't go looking for trouble" mindset. My husband bought me one of those expensive foot massagers. I was told not to use that either. The one time I did use it, I couldn't even feel the vibrations when it was set to "high".

Thanks for the feedback Fallgal...
