Since I've been Diabetic over the last 8 years I have always been able to use all of the latest testing meters and strips my gp has always prescribed for the strips but I have always got the meters free direct from the various companies who promote these. Recently My GP told me that he could now only prescribe testing strips for a GlucoLab Meter as Redbridge, Barking & Havering Health Authorities would only pay for this particular brand .ie: test strips for this brand are £9.00 for 50 as against £20-£30 for other brands.

I can understand that they want to save money but sometimes I have to test 2-3 times because I feel the reading is not right. I have spoken to my doctor about this and he gave me another test meter which was exactly the same I contacted Gluco lab and explained to them what was happening and was told that this meter and strips use the latest technology and it could not happen, but it is, all the time so I have to waste 2-3 strips each time I test unsure whether I`m getting an accurate reading. I am out of work and so have to rely on the strips given by the NHS, I take it that most people on Insulin in this country Receive free Testing strips so what happens when al the other health Authorities decide to use this make to save money will this mean that all the other Companies will only be able to supply a limited number of people who have to pay for there own strips ,

Surely that will have to bring the price of the strips down in line with Glucolabs rather than loose Business Meanwhile I have to put up with an inferior Product which my local health authority has done a deal with supplying cheap inferior meters & strips and no choice for the patients surely this is not right !

The Glucolab meter is rubbish. It reads way higher than my One Touch one. I tested it with the same drop of blood. This could be a problem when driving (I'm on gliclazide).

I'm seeing my GP tomorrow and will mention it. I had a choice of 4 meters but they didn't have any Wavesense Jazz in stock.

Just been looking at the wave sense jazz and the lancets and strips are identical to the iBGStar and BGStar and the I phone app looks the same as well
