Forgetting Injections ... BS unchanged

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused and thought I would give asking here a try.

I was diagnosed at the end of November as Type 1, taken in with a BS level of 42, which is apparently one of the highest they'd seen.

I started on Novorapid and Levemir (initially 5,5,7,10 then 5,5,7,12). A couple of times since then, I've forgotton to take my nightly Levemir or Novorapid before meals.

Both times when long term injection wasn't taken, my BS remained between 4-7 during the day.

Last time, I had a fairly big meal (lamb, rice, houmous, bread) my BS level was normal (5 if I remember right) before eating, and 4.9 2 hours after eating, without injection.

Today, a burger and a big portion of chips, also no injection. BS before eating was 4.7 , 2 hours after just 5.9

This doesn't make any sense to me? Or could I still be in a honeymoon period?

hi mate,

just saw your post - take a look at my post after yours entitled 'honeymoon period'. Basically over time I kept reducing my dose to see what effect it would have on my levels. After several weeks at 1,1,1,2 I stopped taking insulin and have been just about fine ever since - now whilst I wouldn't recommend doing that I would definitely recommend trying to reduce the doses gradually over time and see if your levels remain normal. Also get an appt with your consultant asap and see if there was anything that could've happened in the weeks leading up to your diagnosis that could have had an effect somehow (mine was too much overproof rum!).

good luck!
