Hi all, I totally forgot to take my Lantus last night. I woke up at 4am and remembered, tested my blood (5.7) and took my Lantus.
My question is, what do I do tonight? Normally I take 7 units at 21:30. If I take my usual dose at my usual time, I will be overlapping by 7 hours; this isn’t okay is it?
How do I overcome this? I don’t want to change my time to 4am.

TYIA, much love.

Hi @Creggwood . We all do this at sometime or another. It's not as big an issue as it first seems.
Personally I would just take the next lantus at the usual time and set an alarm just to check in the night that levels are okay.
Strongly suspect that you won't see much difference.
A lot of lantus users myself included split the dose twice daily, I have to admit that on many occasions I don't keep those injections 12 hrs apart.
Inject at 21.30 and keep an eye on things through the night and you'll be fine and back into your normal routine.:)

I found no affect if I moved my Lantus injection time by 2 hours. I would do this when I travelled somewhere with a significantly different time zone to avoid needing to inject in the middle of the night.
I never tried moving it 7 hours in one jump.
So, if you are concerned about the big jump causing overlap, you could make the adjustment over 3 nights to gradually move it back.

Hi Creggwood, Yes, you are not alone. It can even be worse in someways if you forget you have taken your insulin and give a second dose of it near the first !! I recall a talk from an American paediatrician visiting OZ who was rung one night at his home in USA by a mother saying "Johnny" had double dosed on his insulin ( this was before insulin pumps were in use in children). Well, he made Johnny's night. The doctors's prescription was for the family to go down to the favourite family ice-cream parlour and have a feast. Sure they would need to monitor Johnny's BSL and tell him that this was very much regarded as a one-off event !
So please do not be too hard on yourself !
