After the first couple of time giving my husband his Insuman basal I have forgotten to mix up the insulin. I'm a newbie at this, only done it 5 times. What difference does it make and should i use a new pen now? His dose is 20 units morning and 18 units nights

Hi,

It's a long time since I used anything like this.
But.
It could have altered the potency of the insulin in the mixture?
So I would change the pen or cartridge...

Don't worry! It's easy to forget. & To be fair just handling the pen may have mixed it somewhat any way??

I would suggest you keep a closer eye on your husbands blood levels though!

You don't need to shake the pen vigorously (like a spray paint can.) just allow the little ball mix the contents to a consistant greyish colour...

Hope this helps..?!

@AliceChatsworth , you don't ''shake'' the insulin, I'm sure if you read the patient leaflet it will say that you gently rock the pen/cartridge from side-to-side (or words to that effect) before using.
