Has anyone used this product for weight loss out of interest. It seems to be a Glucosomine derivative (from the shells of crustacea) and claims to be a lipid absorbent to help reduce excess weight, help long term weight control and lowers LDL cholesterol levels. It also says it is safe for diabetics with no carbohydrate exchange value. Sounds too good to be true but is it?? :?

I'd be very wary of any of the so called diet pills, a lot of then either don't work or have unpleasent side effects. As for the long term weight control, (if they do actually do what they claim) this will only last as long as you carry on taking them. When I was losing weight I was tempted as it seemed an easy option, and that is what the companys that make them rely on,( there is lots of money to be made from desperate people) but if you look on most of these products labels most of them say ' will only help weightloss with a controlled diet' which you would loose weight with if you was following anyway. I lost 5 and a half stone without the use of any pills and Iv'e kept it off, I hate to think how much money I would have spent if I had taken any of these pills because they're not cheap. I would stick to the lots of fresh veg ,cut the carbs and portion sizes approach it's cheaper and safer and you will lose the weight just as fast. From what I have read about Formoline it appears to work by binding the fat you consume to avoid absorbsion, but just think, what goes in must come out and I certainly wouldn't want to be next in the toilet queue after someone who had been taking these pills

There are alot or these type of potions around - i have had pts who have tried most altho this one has yet to filter thro.

However for some pts we do prescribe one of the nhs available drugs like xenical and they can be useful but if pts get the right advice. If they over eat fat - and we are talking rubbish fat here they will be in a queue for the toilet and I have a few tales about that from pts !!

Thanks all - Eddie, I doubt I'm edible anyway...far too many drugs in the system!!!

Ally, my only (yeah right) 'fat' vice is a nibble of cheese from time to time and I try to keep meat to the 'lean' variety but holidays on the horizon so naughtiness beckons...probably more alchohol than fat though so ...!! That bikini is just gonna have to suffer...

jay cheese is fine but it is the quantity - I usually suggest about 50g ( 2oz) and if you grate it goes further. I would normally suggest 3-4 times a week . Of course if you use lower fat types eat a bit more - brie, cammenbert etc are lower anyway. Must admit i luv cheese!

Ooh, goodness Ally, I only indulge once a week or so, and then it's just a thin slice on wholemeal toast or Ryvita (sorry all, but you know I don't 'low carb'!!). But thanks for the guidance... :D
