Found this monitor on E Bay. Any good please?

I bought a second meter to leave in my car as I do a lot of driving so decided to buy the same one as my diabetes nurse gave me, which is here on ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BAYER-CON...t=UK_Health_HealthCare_RL&hash=item485661f564

If you register with Bayer, they will send you a free usb cable so you can use there software to download results and also a free set of batteries, I did it and they came within a week

Thanks for that link.

I am going to wait 'til Wednesday and see if I am given one by my DN.

Are the lancets very large for the Contour?

I am sure I have read on here there are easier lancets for folk like me...

A complete Wimp when it comes to needles....

I have to go to a special wimps dental clinic in Brighton as I find dental injections too much....

Hi,

I have only ever used there so not sure how to compare the lancets, I don't find it too much trouble to be honest, but someone with more knowledge might be able to come along and give you so more in depth advice.

You don't need to use the pricker/lancets that come with the meter :problem:
I "mix n matched" until I found what I wanted :D
If you get a meter from the DN/manufacturer but not enough strips on prescription, It could still be cheaper to buy the meter and get cheaper strips.

As mentioned before you can get meters for free, just need the doctor to give you a repeat prescription.

The code free has a reputation from posts that it tends to read a bit high, though the strips are cheaper than the big names if you have to buy your own.

Have a look at the manufactures sites like Bayer, Abbott Medisense, Life Scan, Accu Chek etc, see which meter you like the look off and give them a ring, most will send you a meter or two. Bayer sent me some one as the main meter and a spare that I use when driving or out and about.

As you want to use a meter, worth asking your GP or DN for a sharps bin, though this varies area to area on how you get one, I get mine direct from the GP and exchange it when full at the practice.

I am not holding my breath on a free meter from my GP.
The free Pulmonary rehab course has been pulled because of the cutbacks in my area but I am very hopeful for a free meter and a prescription for some strips.
All the different meters all require the specific strips don't they?
This is probably why the firms are offering free meters as they are probably guaranteed a buyer for more strips.
Am I wrong here?

You may not win a meter on those links, instead you might find you will receive a meter with a letter saying you were unsuccessful in the competition but we have sent you a meter any way. :) this can take a bit of time. Best bet is ring them up to see if you qualify for a free meter which is normally sent within a few days.
