"stev posted OFFER: Accu-Chek Advantage II Blood Glucose Meter & Lancet

i have a spare Accu-Chek Advantage II meter which someone may be able to use. There are no strips as they were well out of date, just the meter, lancet, pouch and instructions.

May be useful as a second machine to keep in the car or at work perhaps. Been in a draw for a while so you will need to aquire a black chip for it but these are free from Roche (Those who use a meter will know what I mean). Takes a CR2032 battery.

Any questions please ask.

Regards
Steve"

As said this was posted on CHORLEY FREEGLE - so thought I'd repost in case it is of use to anyone in that area - I got one from a guy on Freecycle. I'm pre-diabetic but have found that by testing I'm getting a better idea what my body likes and what it doesn't

Most meter manufacturers will provide a meter for free. It's the strips that cost.

I didn't realise that - I was given my meter by a guy who has diabetes and had one spare. It's the contour Next USB - good for me as even if I did make a note of readings I would be guaranteed to lose them.

The strips certainly do cost! - eBay is a good place to buy but you need to be sure they are in date! Obviously some are on sale by people who get them for free on prescription as one I was sent still had the pharmacy label on..........

That's exactly what I'm doing Jan. I was thinking maybe I was being too keen but now I see it is a good idea.

I too thought I might be going a bit OTT but found it is definitely a good idea. Especially now that I know that even the "good" breads, the wholemeal multiseeded vairiety etc makes my blood sugar jump after the 2 hours. Never quite sure if the 2 hours is from finishing the meal or from starting it though.

I usually go by 2 hours after the meal is finished

Thanks Diamond Ash  - that will do nicely. Seems the sensible thing to do (as does going to bed - I've just clocked the time.......mmmm. Luckily the only alarm clock I need is the dogs telling me they want out or want breakfast...
