Hi

I'm new to thei forum and am not sure if this is the correct place to post my question but if you can help I would most obliged.

I've just purchsed a Freestyle Libre 2 Plus and it seems to be working ok.

My question is

In the box I got 1 sensor in the sensor pack and one sensor applicator.

The total cost was around £50.00

This sensor works for14 days I am told.

Do I then have to purchase a new Sensor and applicator for the same price or can I just purchase the sensors

I hope this is not a stupid question

Hi @IslanderUK and welcome to the forum. I use the Freestyle Libre 2 plus. Each sensor and applicator is single use only. Oh and BTW the newer 2 Plus lasts 15 days, the older Libre 2 only lasted 14 days.

thank you the quick response.

Just to be clear, you are saying I cannot purchase the sensors seperately. This means I will have to spend £50 every 15 days if I wish to continue with this method of getting my glucose level.

I have been told I can get this on prescription but just want to be clear what I need to ask my doctor for.

Yes it’s very expensive
As a type 2 on oral medication I’ve never been allowed any type of monitoring on prescription. Just to warn you that you may not get them either.
 
Thank you very much for the information. My problem is that I have been told I am very near having to go on insulin and want to avoid it.

I get finger prickers on prescription but they cause a lot of discomfort that prevents me using my computer keyboard for a few hours after taking blood.

I willcontact my doctor and see what happens.

Are you pricking the pads of your finger tips? It is much less painful to prick the sides and may make your computer use more comfortable.
 
I use Libre 2 - each is single use only ... however, I know your doctor can give you them on prescription. If one comes off, call them and they will replace them free of charge within a couple of days. That's my experience anyway, I don't know about other people's experiences. I'd speak to your doctor to see if they will prescribe the sensor on prescription.
 
Luckily (!!!) being recently diagnosed type 1, I get mine on prescription, I don't know if that varies from region to region or not. I would say it's certainly worth asking, as £100/month is a huge outlay, but mine has been invaluable helping me learn to manage my glucose levels for something that has come as a shock change relatively late in life.
 
Oh, I'm sorry, my computer is playing me up. You get a new applicator with each sensor. They come in a box with two containers (WARNING: The applicator one - not the one you 'peel' the lid off but the one you twist off) can be extremely tough to open. I went through my whole family before we went next door and eventually the husband was able to open it!
 
Libre 2 lasts 14 days, where as Libre 2 plus lasts 15 days. Only one sensor in the box and basically need 2 per month
