Freestyle libre eligibility

Hi, welcome

Something like,

Must be testing 8+ times a day with finger prick
Hypo unawareness
And also something work related
Type one diabetic

I’m waiting to hear if I’m getting it.

Why did I bother trying to answer a question I clearly don’t know well enough, sorry lol

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I didn't fit or seem to qualify the "requirements," but I had been self funding for a fair while. I just kept asking my endo & getting knocked back though my GP was up for it.
In the end.. Along with an A1c improvement satisfying the endo I knew what I was doing. I actually convinced him that "food prep" or handling food stuff coupled with "bloodletting" the traditional way to monitor & maitain BGs being "inapropriate."
Sold the idea for the endo to instruct my GP to prescribe them..
I was working on a free range chicken ranch at the time, up to my elbows in eggs & carcasses...

Sometimes, it just pays to have the "right job?"

For me I just had to be testing 8 times a day.
Are you type 1 @ASJ?

Same here too, realy.. Anything after that up to 14? Quite often noting I'd come out of hypos when the lag on the Libre suggested I still was low.. ;)
I still carry my meter. Especially as a driver.

Very wise. I don't drive but usually have my meter with me. It would be good if libre was a complete replacement for blood testing but a finger prick a couple of times a day is better than the many I was doing previously. My fingertips have never looked so good :D

I know there are various requirement lists but to be honest it depends where you live and who your consultant or doctor is , that in my opinion is wrong , if you go by the requirements list I should never have been given Libre on Prescription ! But my consultant was a great guy knew my situations with regard work ( really difficult to test blood etc ) so when the Libre system came available he mad wit available to me , it is a postcode lottery as much as we don’t want it to be , but Libre is also a game changer and should be available to everyone ! There will come a time I believe when a Libre system IS availbe as it will save money and that is the what it’s all about. Unfortunately

A very quick Google search found this, the latest (July 2021) criteria for Libre in England https://diabetesmyway.nhs.uk/resources/internal/nhs-england-libre-criteria/

Other nations may have different criteria

Looks like "occupational (e.g. working in insufficiently hygienic conditions to safely facilitate finger-prick monitoring)" for me, then..

Personally grafting with upto my elbows in muck. Not just with food stuff. But engineering & now regarding landscaping. Some customers own dogs & cats.. ;) Thanks. Good for reference & nice to know my endo appreciates the real world..
