Hi, I’m interested in obtaining a Lifestyle Libre in order to check blood sugars. I’ve read that this would be beneficial in getting better control, however on asking my GP was told this is not available at my surgery! Anyone else got this problem. It does say on NHS England website that it should be available to ALL type 1 diabetics.
 
The Libre is not available to ALL people with type 1 diabetes.
It should be available to all people with diabetes who meet a set of quite strict criteria which are described here: https://diabetestimes.co.uk/nhs-updates-clinical-guidance-for-freestyle-libre-access/ (there may be a fuller description of the guidelines. I found this with a quick google search)
It is anticipated up to 20% of people with type 1 diabetes will qualify.

In some areas, the GP is unable to prescribe the Libre. It can only be prescribed by a diabetes consultant.
If you feel you satisfy the criteria, I recommend talking to your consultant.
