I'm T2. I pay for my own strips as I can't get them on the NHS. I have been buying them (and sharps) from Abbott Laboratories, but they have recently written to tell me they are moving their payment systems out to their base in the USA. I was asked to agree the transfer of my contact details and card details to this system, but as I didn't want to do this they've said they can no longer supply any BG testing products to me. I've found I can order the strips and sharps on Amazon (supplied by Abbott Laboratories!) but I have to pay VAT. When I ordered direct from Abbott I was VAT exempt. Given that it is already quite costly to buy the strips (and sharps), and I don't get any financial help via the NHS, does anyone know of another source for the BG products I need, and one where I won't be charged VAT?
 
They ask you for permission to transfer your data to the US as the US is outside the EU Data Protection remit. I'd just say 'ok' - it's nothing sinister.
