Hey All,

I have managed to secure a place on the World Scout Jamboree in 2015, and it is being held in Japan. We have had briefing reg the weather and v.hot environment (40c+) when we will be over there. Obviously not great for insulin etc.

I already have a selection of Frio products but wondered if anyone knows where I might get a solar powered fridge? This would have to be a very small one; say just big enough to fit a can of coke in etc. Due to baggage restrictions and distance I will be travelling it'll have to be extremely portable. I have trawled the net and not many decent results as of yet.

Any help, or even advice, would be appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Sorry I can't be of any help but can I ask why the Frio wallets won't be sufficient? It's just I've been looking at these and I would like to hear peoples experiences with then pros and cons - not that I will ever be doing the world scout jamboree

My family are very associated with scouting. Why do you need a fridge? The organisers are used to diabetics requirements, and should be more than able to assist you with the storage requirements. It's going to be a brilliant Jamboree though.

Go with the Frio wallets, they work pretty well for out and about and travel over there. They're based on natural evaporation from a water holding gel and work pretty well in my experience. You'll have no problems with the travelling at all .

The thing to keep an eye on is the dampness while using it for storage. AT 40C I'd imagine it dries out a lot more quickly than at 20C.

But as Kerry said above, surely the planners can make a small fridge available for storage

I briefly remember a guy on another forum who is Type 1, he lives in China and keeps his insulin cool with Frio wallets which work for him.
My fridge died on me about 4 months ago and I can not afford to replace it so in the summer I will be using my Frio wallets for my pump as well as insulin vials.

I know that the summer heat in the UK must be different from Japan but I am sure that Frio wallets must be an easier alternative to a fridge.

Louse have you tried free cycle they have them in most places and you may be able to get a fridge
