Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum.
My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 14 months old, she's now 17months old and we are waiting on a start day for her insulin pump. Was just wondering if anyone has moved from injections to pump and what your thoughts are?
Thanks

Hello and welcome!
I'm t1 for 35yrs and been on a pump for 6yrs now through 2 pregnancies-personally couldn't have done it without one.
Anyway more to the point my just 2yr old was diagnosed in Dec and moved onto pump end Jan. I was really wary for various reasons-mainly about inserting it and knowing whether it has gone in properly as my daughter still not talking. It seems to be going ok and there are 2 main advantages for me-only one insertion every 3 days compared to numerous injections. Secondly the flexibility of timing insulin in a toddler and the dose sizes (problems with her eating) -ability to give correction doses too. So far seems the better option I think than injections. I did opt for the same manufacturer as the one I have so I didn't have to contend with knowing details of 2 pumps so think that's helped me as the set up first time was quite hard for both myself and my daughter and would have felt out of my depth I think if I didn't have one (just so you are aware).
Hope that helps xx

Hi again-downside for me for a toddler is them pulling at the pump/cannula and it's quite big compared to them -I have a waistband for my daughter. Other children pointing or bumping into it too.
