Frozen avocados

Hi All

I read on here that Tesco were selling frozen avocados which I was super excited about (I know, sad or what?) so my OH has scoured all Tesco stores on his work route and there are none to be found. Sobs loudly...
 
I found mine in the freezer alongside the smoothie ingredients if that helps.
 
oh wonder if they are a new thing or area specific, might have to stock up this week.

 
I made the journey (2/3 buses) to my nearest Tesco on Saturday. I nabbed the last pack of Frozen Avocados in the freezer shelves.
£2.50 for 9 small halves, ready peeled and pitted. I haven't tried them yet. @donnellysdogs says she left some to thaw overnight and they turned to mush. I will only take them out to defrost about 30-40 minutes before I need them.
 
Would buying fresh and freezing them work?

I think you have to blanche (dip in boiling water) vegetables before freezing or the structure breaks down and they will turn to mush on defrosting.
 
When I have too many ripe ones I do freeze them. I have tried multiple ways so they don't brown or turn to much. The best way I have found is to smash them really well (or blend with an emersion blender) with a little lemon or lime juice. The acid stops them from browning. I freeze them in 2 oz cups or in larger ones and push waxed paper on top so there is no air. They are not as good as fresh smashed but they are much better than store bought guac. I eat them for BF every day and occasionally I have had a few bad ones in one day that I had to toss so these are my 'emergency' ones. They are good to travel too. As long as there is acid blended in they can be taken out of the freezer to defrost over night.
 
I searched online too and nope, nada, zilch
 
But are they nice? They sound above weird.
 
I want them for green smoothies.
Of course, I could always buy them up when they are cheap and freeze them myself, but since I have the organisational skills of a kaleidoscope of butterflies, that ain't never gonna happen.
 
I find that one day they are rock solid and the next day over ripe...and a bit on the expensive side for chucking out. I thought my life would be complete with the frozen ones.
